Colorado Reading Corps

Colorado Reading CorpsDid you know that there are more than 600 3rd graders in Larimer County who are not reading at grade level? Research shows that 74% of children who are behind at the end of 3rd grade will never catch up to their peers. More importantly, 3rd grade reading scores are a key indicator for future community success rates and will directly impact the number of individuals and families living in poverty.

Colorado Reading Corps is a nationally replicated model that utilizes AmeriCorps Members, trained in early intervention literacy strategies, to provide one-on-one tutoring to kindergarten through 3rd grade students who are not reading at grade level.

In the 2014-2015 school year in Thompson School District, Colorado Reading Corps served 422 students, and 93.1% of those students showed academic progress.
