Colorado Reading Corps

There are more than 600 third graders in Larimer County who are not reading at grade level. Research shows that 74% of children who are behind at the end of third grade will never catch up to their peers. More importantly, third grade reading scores are a key indicator for future community success rates and will directly impact the number of individuals and families living in poverty.

Colorado Reading Corps is a nationally replicated model that utilizes AmeriCorps Members, trained in early intervention literacy strategies, to provide one-on-one tutoring to kindergarten through 3rd grade students who are not reading at grade level.

In the 2015-2016 school year in Thompson School District, Colorado Reading Corps served 737 students, and 96.4% of those students showed academic progress.
