Volunteer with Junior Achievement!
Junior Achievement Rocky Mountain, Inc.- Fort Collins

From 08/22/2018 to 05/24/2019

The mission of Junior Achievement (JA) is to prepare young people to thrive in the 21st century workplace by providing FREE volunteer taught programs to over 15,000 students just in Northern Colorado & Wyoming each year. JA volunteers come from all walks of life, but they all have a common vision: sharing a message of hope and opportunity with each and every young person they reach. They lead by example, giving real-world meaning to JA's curriculum and helping students become more optimistic about school, work and life. Volunteering with JA is easy! JA staff assign each volunteer to one K-12th grade classroom to present JA's innovative, hands on curriculum. Each first-time volunteer is provided with a 45-minute training, as well as all of the supplies and talking points to be successful in the classroom. Time commitment varies from one 30-45 minute lesson per week for five weeks, to one day of teaching. What topics would you cover with your classroom of students as a volunteer? JA volunteers help students plan for their future by introducing them to concepts such as taxes, budgeting, careers, entrepreneurship, stocks, skills, STEM jobs, decision-making, city zones, ethics, and SO much more. If you believe in their future, so will they! Check out our website for more information! www.janocowy.org

"First Apartment Bundle" Item Drive for Youth Aging Out of Foster Care
The Matthews House

From 10/22/2018 to 10/27/2018

A primary population we work with in our Empowering Youth program is teens aging out of foster care. Through one-on-one case management and other programs, we use a holistic approach to meet needs of our clients in these five main areas: housing, well-being, education, employment, and life skills. Here are some stats on this population: Only 58% will graduate high school by age 19 Only 3% will earn a college degree by age 25 1 in 4 will be involved in the justice system within 2 years 1 in 5 will be homeless by age 21 50% will experience at least one economic hardship 71% of females will become pregnant by age 21 >50% will be unemployed by age 24 Our upcoming project falls into the housing category, as we strive to work with our youth to find their first safe, stable, and independent living situations. We're hoping to work with a local group or business that would host a drive during the week of October 22 for "First Apartment" item bundles. I can share more details with you if interested. Please let me know if you'd like to look into partnering with us on this amazing opportunity to help youth thrive in Larimer County!
